As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to vote YES on AB 1089 (Mullin), which would protect our local democracies from unlimited special interest political spending.

Unlike campaigns for state elected office, in 78% of cities there is currently no limit on campaign contributions. Wealthy special interests can legally give unlimited amounts to local candidates. In a recent case, a single donor gave $100,000 directly to a candidate for city council.

AB 1089 would protect our local democracies from this unlimited political spending. The bill would extend the state campaign contribution limits to candidates in local elections, while preserving local governments' autonomy to tailor the limit to meet the needs of their communities.

Please help pass this important reform by voting YES on AB 1089.
